Who We Are

Image of Harlem River Community rowers and boats

Founded in 2006 by a small group of rowers who believed that rowing in New York should be affordable, accessible and fun, HRCR offers quality rowing programs from learn-to-row classes, to recreational rowing opportunities to competitive training and regatta experience. We are the only rowing program in the city geared specifically toward adults. Recent initiatives have introduced rowing to New York’s high-school and middle-school age children; HRCR hopes to provide these generations of future rowers with a place to row for the rest of their lives.

HRCR members hail from all five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Some of us learned to row in college or high school, others learned later in adult programs; a few of us were students in HRCR learn-to-row classes. We range in age from early 20’s to late 60’s.

We welcome both competitive and recreational rowers. HRCR members have competed in a wide variety of regattas, including the Head of the Schuykill, Head of the Fish, Capital Sprints, Independence Day Regatta, Head of the Connecticut, Montreal OUT Games, and Empire State Games.

As a volunteer-based organization, we rely on the generosity of our friends, supporters and fellow rowers to provide excellent rowing instruction and help us revitalize the Harlem River. Get involved or donate here! HRCR is an incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit.
